Phillip Jerrod “Phil” Heath (born December 18, 1979) is an American professional bodybuilder and trainer Mr. Olympia. He is a seven-time Mr. Olympia winner, having placed first in the competition every year from 2011 to 2017. His latest win is with Arnold Schwarzenegger for the third time Lee Haney and Ronnie Coleman.
However, we must not believe that Phil Heath’s life was all drawn and that he was born with a silver spoon in his mouth … Both his parents worked full time, and he often had to take care of himself from the youngest age. That’s what gave him a strength of character out of the ordinary and gave him the skills to work hard and never give up. What is his career?
Phil Heath was born in Seattle, Washington, in December 1979. From an early age, he was passionate about sports and had a very active temperament. He did not hold up. His family was very close, but both his parents were busy with their jobs. They had succeeded in life, but there was not enough time to take care of their child. That’s how Phil Heath had to take charge at an early age and that’s what allowed him to acquire many skills. Skills that he put into practice to reach the heights of bodybuilding.
He quickly realized that work and training were the foundation of success, especially because of the parenting model. For him, hard work always leads somewhere. And that’s what he always put into practice in his training and in life.
His childhood and adolescence were relatively calm. Studies at Rainier Beach High School and a love for basketball will lead him to play for his high school. Subsequently, he won a scholarship (through his sports skills) for the University of Denver in Colorado. He continued to play basketball while pursuing studies in business administration and computer science.
It was his favorite sport, and his first passion, basketball which made him discover the gyms. And he was very inspired by the camaraderie and the work of sportsmen in the gym. His presence in a gym has nothing to do with bodybuilding. He did not even think about it at the time. His primary goal was to improve for basketball. In particular, his jumping power, and his presence in the field.
But soon he realized he did not have the potential to break into basketball. He felt that he was missing the little extra that would make the difference on the ground. This is how he turned to the gyms, a kind of refuge, and he immersed himself in the culture of bodybuilders. Certainly, he did not intend to go pro, because he juggled between several trades at the time. He was a web developer, a nightclub starter, and always busy with basketball.

How was this champion born?
It was not until 2002 that he really started bodybuilding training in nutrition, supplements, and training strategies while working in his local gym.
He considers the first 3 years of his training as the most formative. He went from 90 to 110 pounds with only 6% body fat.
In 2003, he participated in his first competition where he was crowned champion for the first time. It was there that he received his nickname “The Gift” at the famous Rocky Mountain Northern contest.
After this first success, he participated again and won second place. This allowed him to make a name for himself and a name in the midst of light heavyweights. The motivation was even stronger …
With the training, he gained more weight, which made him switch to a new category, that of more than 100 kilos. It is in this category that he takes first place and gets the title of Mister Colorado at the NPC Colorado State Show. This earned him sponsorship deals with well-known brands while consolidating his early attempts as a formidable competitor.
In 2005, he reached 215 pounds and made appearances at the Colorado Pro Championships and the New York Pro Championships, winning both victories in 2007. Confident in him, he participated in the Arnold Classic and finished 5th. The following years were identical and he went on with several successes that confirmed him as a potential champion of the bodybuilding scene.
